Jakob Kudsk Steensen (B. 1987, Denmark) is an artist working with environmental storytelling through video games, VR, sound installations and immersive environments. He creates poetic interpretations about overlooked natural phenomena through collaborations with field biologists, composers and writers. Projects are based on extensive fieldwork in overlooked, rare or transforming ecosystems, where life and spaces are digitized as sound and 3D environments.
Offer
Through my work the last 10 years I have collaborated with natural historians and field biologists. I insert myself into their worlds, through fieldwork in biomes, or conceptually with their theories of life, and take from that design philosophies and experiences essential for me to create immersive experiences this. These are then adapted to various venues and contexts: Art museums, film festivals, public culture propjets and as downloadable video games for youth groups. I believe it is essential for us to shift how we sense, feel, and speak about the world in our public as well as personal, private and intimate spaces. Without internalizing within us how we connect to he world outside, nothing will change.
NEED
- Key collaborators and institutes working with acute and present explorations of ocean environments changing right now - Funding to scale my projects and studio to reach an even larger audience, and to make my works more accessible. Many are asking for this, but I cannot fund the next phase myself - Path to realizing a major environmentally themed video game aimed at a large audience - Access to remote and key regions to do fieldwork with collaborators.
Call-to-Action
We need to support new interdisciplinary communities of creators, who genuinely seek to connect the public to new environmental perspectives and changes. We need to move beyond old models and formats to do this.
